The information available on our website gives a flavour of who we are and what we do in promoting the twinning of Street with Notre Dame de Gravenchon in France and Isny im Allgäu in Germany.
Both twinning arrangements are long standing, very healthy and well supported but we will always welcome new members and especially families to maintain that longevity and to bring fresh ideas and outlook to our visits. To find out more details please visit the page About Street Twinning.
Our recent press release summarises things thus:-
Do you enjoy short trips abroad, meeting new people and seeing new places, sampling different foods and having fun whilst learning about our European neighbours?
The Street Twinning Association (STA) can offer you this opportunity.
Last April a group of twenty members shared cars to drive over to the French Twin town of Notre Dame de Gravenchon near to Le Havre in North West France for a 5 day visit during which they visited the D Day beaches and other places of interest in the area as well as spending time with both their hosts and the entire group. In August twenty four of members flew from Heathrow to Zurich where they were met by their German hosts from Isny im Allgäu, a small German town near to the Swiss and Austrian borders. They were made to feel incredibly welcome, treated to interesting day trips out and enjoyed convivial meals all together accompanied on the last evening by an Alpenhorn.
If you think this sounds interesting/fun then why not join for this year when it is the STA’s turn to host visitors from France (in April) and Germany (in August).
As both countries have new members wanting to come the Association is looking for families/couples or individuals who would be interested to host and then pay a return visit to them in 2026.
What’s involved as a host? Providing accommodation and some meals for your guest(s). A programme of shared days out and social events are organised by the committee with costs for guests being paid for by the Association. On the years members visit France or Germany the main cost is travel which is organised by the Association.
Language hasn’t proved a barrier as most guests speak some if not excellent English or one can resort to Google Translate.
If you are interested in joining the STA but maybe feel a little tentative or would just like to find out more, then please email street.twinning@gmail.com or call 0345 833 6714 and a member will contact you for a one to one chat and answer any questions.
